Traditional Moose/Deer Tanning workshops
Tammy grew up and lives in her community, where she has been able to learn and now teach the traditional ways of tanning hides.
She started traditional hide tanning 10+ years ago when she asked her mother Jackie Pizendewatch if she could help her tan hides. Tammy knew then that it was her responsibility to carry her grandfather Basil Twashi’s teachings which he learned from his mother.
Tammy has taken on the responsibility of making herself available to help pass on this knowledge because of the importance of revitalizing the traditional practices of our ancestors. She focusses on the respect of the land and animals and the sustainability aspect of Anishinabe ways of knowing and doing.
Workshops include:
- Hands-on hide demonstrations
- Hide camps and workshops, where Tammy walks you through the hide tanning process from start to finish. Get ready to work your "mooscles"!
